Youthful appearance and hair loss

Has there ever been more pressure to have a full and luscious head of hair? Whether it’s dating app snaps, Instagram selfies, or even that corporate headshot on LinkedIn, maintaining a youthful appearance has become a critical feature of modern life.

Relationships and hair loss

Young people are more conscious about their appearance than ever before. One particular contributory pattern that we’ve seen is that people are having serious relationships much later compared to 20 or 30 years ago. Now men are looking to find a partner in their 30s, which makes male pattern baldness more of a problem, as it tends to begin between the ages of 20 and 25.

Your own hair transplanted.

A hair transplant is the long term most cost effective way of achieving a better, natural head of hair. No weaving or costly maintenance visits to keep your hair looking good.

According to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), male pattern baldness affects 30pc of men under 30, and around 80pc of men over 70.

If you are thinking of a hair transplant it is important to understand how it works, what’s involved, the overall cost and, most importantly, to find a surgeon you are comfortable with.

Firstly, your own hair from the donor region (the back or side of your head) is transplanted to the bald or sparse area of your scalp. Only your own hair can be transplanted to your scalp as hair from other individuals will be rejected by the body.

It is also possible for your beard hair or body hair to be transplanted to the scalp, although this is not a common procedure.

The most successful method of transplantation uses the microsurgical methods with FUT or FUE hair transplant surgery, where tiny strips of just a few hairs or the individual extraction of just one hair is implanted giving a much more natural appearence, no more ‘ dolls hair ‘, ‘brush effect ‘ or unsightly scars. This type of surgery gives acceptable density and even from a short distance no one can see that new hair has been transplanted.

The rest of the surgery (recipient site preparation, graft insertion-graft planting) is equally important and is performed in the same way for both treatments. Selecting the most appropriate method for the patient is an essential part of the surgical plan. This is where the skill of the surgeon comes in.

There are just two types of hair transplant surgery.

FUT-strip harvesting (also called Follicular Unit Strip Surgery, FUSS)

FUE- Follicular Unit Extraction (individual follicles extraction technique)

Marketing companies use several different names for these hair transplant methods but they are all the same.
